CHAPTER #19

INTERROGATIVE PRONOUNS

Perhatikan pasangan kalimat dibawah ini :

Who is there? Who are you?

Of whom do you speak? Whom do you want?

Whose is this book?

Which is the house?

Which do you prefer, tea or coffee?

What is the matter? What do you want?

What will all the neighbours say?

                  I asked who was speaking.

I do not know who is there.

Tell me what you have done.

                  Ask what he wants.

Say which you would like best.

Perhatikan kalimat dibawah ini lagi

Who gave you that knife?             (Nominative)

                  Whose is this book?                     (Genitive)

                  Whom did you see?                      (Accusative)

To whom were you speaking?        (Accusative)

                  What is that?                               (Nominative)

                  What do you want?                      (Accusative)

                  Which is he?                                (Nominative)

                  Which do you prefer?                   (Accusative)

Dapat dilihat bahwa dalam interrogative pronoun , who memiliki bentuk yang berbeda dalam bentuk nominative, accusative ataupun genitive nya; Sedangkan what dan which tidak berbeda. Who digunakan untuk menanyakan orang, sedangkan which digunakan baik untuk menanyakan orang ataupun benda; what digunakan hanya untuk menanyakan benda.
