ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE

• Rama helps Hari

• Hari is helped by Rama

•  

Dapat dilihat bahwa 2 kalimat diatas memiliki arti yang sama. Tetapi pada kalimat 1, bentuk dari kata kerja menunjukan bahwa orang yang ditunjuk oleh subject melakukan sesuatu.

                  Rama (the person denoted by the Subject) does something.

 

Kata kerja helps merupakan Active Voice.

 

Pada kalimat 2, bentuk dari kata kerja menunjukan bahwa sesuatu dilakukan oleh seseorang yang ditunjuk oleh subject

 

                  Something is done to Hari (the person denoted by Subject)

 

Kata kerja helped merupakan Passive Voice.

 

Perhatikan perubahan active voice ke passive voice pada kalimat dibawah ini,--

Active Voice                                                                  Passive voice

1. Sita loves Savitri                                                   Savitri is loved by Sita.

2. The mason is building the wall.                               The wall is being built by the mason.

3. The peon opened the gate                                      The gate was opened by the peon.

4. Some boys were helping the wounded man             The wounded man was being helped by

    some boys.

5. He will finish the work in a fortnight                         The work will be finished by him in a 

    fortnight.

6. Who did this?                                                         By whom was this done?

7. Why did you brother write such a letter?                  Why was such a letter written by your

    brother?

 

Ketika kata kerja dirubah bentuknya dari kalimat aktif ke pasif, objek dari transitive verb pada kalimat pasif menjadi subjek dari kata kerja pada kalimat pasif.
